Why you should go to College
When I started attending college, I asked myself “what am I hoping to accomplish by actually pursuing higher education”? I’m sure a lot of us asked ourselves this question before enrolling into such Educational Institutions that are known to ready us for the world of Business, Arts, Sciences Etc. After all it’s a huge investment of time, finances, physicality and even cognitively on us. What I can share with you is that, we sometimes think we know it all, and the little education we possess may suffice for us to get on with our daily doings at work and wherever we add value, but the abundance of knowledge, theories and literal as well as figurative expressions that are looming in the world is just waiting for us to be stimulated intellectually. These principles and life lessons based on teachings that reside within the higher levels of Intellect can only be accessed at University where eager professors with years of experience and a wealth of information are just waiting to bestow onto our brains. These lessons cannot be found on the internet, as they derive from actually brilliant minds in creative motion.
Your major is your door way to happiness because you will be learning things that you love and share a passion for. At the end of this learning period, you graduate with this knowledge in which you can actually put into use and mold into your own fashion when you add value to the social framework of the country.
At first I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in, so I took liberal arts. I remember my English teacher Mr. Richard Petrone showing us an article about a survey that showed proof of the amount of money one can make by level of degree attained. The next semester I choose English as my major. Boy was I in for learning so much about what I do. One example of this was my module on public speaking. This class
was one of my favorites; I was able to learn a lot about voice control, being in front of the crowd and how to work with team dynamics. My literature class was amazing, my professor was like none other. He taught us to open our minds, explore and dissect a confusing story. He was one of the most liberal men I had ever met, and he welcomed our thoughts with open arms. While homework can be overwhelming especially if you are doing more than one activity for the week, knowing how to prioritize will come into play.
As in life, we will all face challenges. That’s because we interact with human beings who indulge in emotional life daily. Everyone has their own biases, flaws and inadequacies I’ve heard from fellow upper classmen, that some professors are no good or in-sufficient in there delivery of education. This is a sad thing, as we are all there to learn, grasp techniques, and challenge ourselves with new concepts. If these teachings cannot be delivered in an apt way or even taught with some sense of empathy towards students, what sense is it that we further our learning. However thus far I am blessed to have caring, brilliant kind hearted professors and I say this proudly as their attitudes and overall behavioral disposition play a big part in college. I remember I went to ratemyprofessor.com and didn’t see good reviews from one of my English teachers. To my astonishment, he turned out to be one of my favorite teachers, which lay proof that we should always be systematic in how we judge people, and not be hasty in casting aspersions and generalizations. We all have apart to play in our education, our professors will assist us, but we must be the ones to actually desire and yearn success.
Once we put our best foot forward, apply ourselves diligently, and be focused on the goals we want to achieve, we are on the glory path. Our Professors will see the dedication in us and meet us there on that journey. Such an example of this is when one of my lecturers actually incorporates life lessons into his work and cultivates his students to work harder by showing us that journey may be difficult at times but never give up, because resignation gets you no were.
I was watching channel 34 recently and saw a program called “No Child Left Behind”. It caught my attention because it was exactly what I was writing about on this blog. One of their guest speakers, Katie Ortego spoke about Grants, Loans and jobs on campus that help foster responsibly and respect of working hard toward student’s ethic. Not only does it give you some additional finances to pay for your tuition, but it allows you to appreciate the trials you endure to put yourself though higher education. Going to college will help you grow morally, spiritually and enables you to be goal oriented as you know and will end up being stronger psychologically after the whole ordeal to face the world ahead.
There are so many reasons you should go to college, especially the fact of having a decent job with a good paying salary.
