Is it ok to Pursue Multiple Passions?

March 18, 2019

Of course; it is a yes for me as it relates to achieving self-actualization.

The way I view it is that there are 7,714,576,923 humans on this planet and surely it would be impossible not finding multiple things we like.

A lot of people say; find one thing that you love and perfect it and on the other hand, some people may conclude that things will never be perfect. That in itself may be a contradiction to most.

A large amount of individuals may just happen to fall into the line of focusing on one thing which is great, however for people like me – one thing is just not our cup of tea. In my early 20’s, I accidently became a radio host followed by becoming an emcee and TV host.

While hosting TV shows, I was expected to do the majority of the interviews allowing me to discover my passion for conducting these one on one interactions. Eventually I started my YouTube channel – Truth be told, every time I think I am not prepared to conduct an interview, I prove myself wrong when I look at the final interview. This led me to realizing that this was something I was destined to do.

When I got into real estate, I had already developed a brand and had an immense passion for the entertainment industry. A lot of people were telling me I was meant to be on mainstream and it is something I believe too. So quitting cold turkey was never an option and I had to figure out a way to incorporate three things; Radio, Emceeing and Real Estate.

Since I was new to real estate, I immersed my self in training. I am still learning the ins and outs of it. I am also doing radio once a week for about 3 hours and emceeing on the weekends. As I am typing this blog, I am sitting in work on a Friday at 6:32pm because my 5pm appointment rescheduled for Monday. Therefore, I decided to write a blog while I listen to some inspiring music in the office. This helps to personally foster a zone of thinking.

So yes, it gets overwhelming at times but also if I am home on the weekend because I am not emceeing it makes me sad, depressed perhaps. All of my passions give meaning to my life. I may not always have figured out how to master the art of scheduling but I know one thing for sure- pursuing my passions is central to my being! The huge winning factor is being committed to all of my passions.

Trials and tribulations occur all the time, but I trust the process and always say to myself; this is happening for a reason. Recently I read a quote that says “people will quit on you, you gotta get up every day and make sure you don’t ‘quit on yourself”. With that being said, I am investing in my life by pursuing what I am passionate about because if I don’t – it is the same as quitting on myself. As the late great philosopher Socrates said “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

***Pursuing multiple passions can be very tedious, but it lends a splash of color to life. What do you think?
