Aging
I am at a point in my life where I wish a time machine existed or was actually invented. I probably am inspired by some of the same thoughts that ran through H. G Wells’ mind when he wrote the “Time Machine” Novel. Funny and profound thought there I must declare but nevertheless even though some wishes do come through, this one for sure wouldn’t materialize any time soon. On a serious note though, they always say time is of the essence as time can never be recouped as it relates to the precious minutes and seconds that pass us by.
Just like that 10 years has flown pass by in my life, where did it go? It seems like it was expedited not in my favor, but however naturally and realistically it went by just as the many sunrises and sunsets experienced.
For some reason, time is sometimes taken for granted in our younger days. We enjoy the juvenile and innocent period of growing up where Monday can actually fall on a Sunday and it won’t bother us. We are governed by what the economies of time permits due to our ascribed lifestyles and what our elders do daily. We enjoy these times, attend school, play with our friends, socialize freely and then BANG! – We realize it’s time to work and get a job. Pressure of being accepted into society, providing for ourselves and taking care of our health soon become an everyday duty and a challenge for many.
One thing that diminishes over a time’s course is our health. A wrinkle here, a grey hair there, no one really prep you for such life changing occurrences, I mean that could take some getting used to. The scariest thing for me is looking in the mirror and seeing someone else, not the Rose I am use to: be but (no offense) the senior Rose from the movie Titanic.
I breathe a sigh of relief that in my younger days I explored like every teenager should as those were the momentous times we gained experiences along the way that would have helped made us wiser decision makers for the present times we live in.
While I am worried about looking in the mirror and seeing a different rose, this just doesn’t happen overnight as the process plays out sequentially. As I am granted life I am thankful to see any day that is given to me by the almighty. Besides beauty never fades it just becomes slightly defined with looser skin and more beauty marks. Therefore it’s time we take our health concerns a bit more seriously, which is a great thing. Getting enough sleep, drinking the correct fluids and indulging in healthy ingredients is what can actually prolong our ticker as we tie it all together with some exercise. Vitamins are great for our immune system, as we age and the regular doctor check up can’t hurt a bit if we monitor our body and health.
So it seems like it takes a long time for our birthday to grace us; well it actually does take 365 days. One can use this as a precise benchmark to gauge there health as well as other symbolic items in their life as it relates to accomplishments. Some state ever so popularly from time to time that “this year I’m turning XX and I am nowhere close to what I wanted to accomplish”. Realistically nothing will stop time from turning over and hence you have to make things happen for you, they may not be exactly the direction you dream of, but true stagnation can only occur if you don’t indulge in productivity. Therefore if you are remotely productive in that 365 days, trust me you will have moved from point A to B in some aspect in your life and conquer some level of accomplishment. What you must now then ask yourself is, what’s preventing me from moving forward? And make some harsh choices if you have to. Dwelling and being depressed only adds to your physical and mental impact.
What prompted this blog in the first place is a whatsapp message I got from a good friend from another country. Her birthday is next month and she will be turning 35 and says she is depressed she will be 40 in 5 years. Why calculate 5 years in 1 second and then become depressed about it? Sure you will be 40 in 5 years, but one can accomplish so much in that time?
Connect with your mind, body and soul for a happier you. While the cliché saying “age is just a number” with age should come progression, growth, wisdom, success and personally we should keep adding on positive aspects while overcoming the inevitable trials. While we tend to worry about getting older, this only sullies the precious present. Best use the time we have on earth, capture memories, build new ones, take selfies, explore, be adventurous, and be forgiving. It’s vital for our well-being.
If you want to take advantage of botox, lipo all these beauty advancement please research with the doctor as the last thing you want is to be walking out the doc’s office looking like Donald Duck. Don’t be so obsessed with anti-aging products and remedies as this tends to captivate your life and you end up pursuing the dream of staying and looking young while you only and naturally get older. I think that is when you will miss the best part of life. Living in the moment is so rewarding, Jump high or jump low, no matter what we do, we can’t control the aging process, but what we can do is allow nature to take its course while nurturing our body. Treat it well and it will show.
